JIMJIM KORYCINSKI

   Professional Resume

Jim Korycinski, founder of Sun Jungle, grew up in Flat Rock, Michigan, a small rural town in southeastern Michigan. At an early age he was attracted to music and by age 8 was playing cornet and piano. Jim quit piano lessons at age 13 after he moved to downriver Detroit (Riverview) and purchased his first Judas Priest, Ozzy Ozbourne, Van Halen, and Def Leppard albums on the advice of some new Riverview friends and at the horror of his mother. Because of this metal influence it was only a matter of time before he picked up a guitar and bass. By age 17, Jim formed a writing team with Ted Kellepourey, Matt Lipkovich, Dave Witzke, and Jim Acs. Most works had strong heavy metal influences.

After high school, Jim moved to Hawaii with Ted Kellepourey and the band Sun Jungle was born. Sun Jungle's first four years were based in Hawaii. The band naturally progressed from Heavy Metal to Alternative Rock while in Hawaii. Jim graduated from the University of Hawaii with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. He was able to pay for most of his college during his Hawaii years thanks to a small scuba shop he formed with his friend Ken. He also waited tables at a famous restaurant called "Matteo's".

After Hawaii, Jim moved to Southern Florida with Matt Lipkovich, Ted Kellepourey, and Jim Acs where Sun Jungle has been based ever since. Jim landed a job teaching in Southern Florida where he has taught middle and high school for the past 20 years. Jim also earned a Master's Degree in Education from the University of South Florida and is also an adjunct professor. The Sun Jungle lineup has seen many changes over the past 20 years while in Southern Florida. Today Sun Jungle usually plays small gigs on the weekends with various drummers and local bands.
